qEEG

A qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) is a tool that is used to measure a person's electrical activity in the brain via brain wave patterns.

What is a qEEG?

The brain has millions of neurons that communicate with each other in the form of brain waves, synchronized electrical pulses. They are the root of all our:

  • Emotions

  • Thoughts

  • Behaviors

Because brain waves change according to what we’re doing and feeling, we can tell a lot about a person’s overall brain function by looking at brain wave patterns.

Brain Mapping

Our FDA approved equipment reveals that abnormalities in brain wave rhythms correlate to tics, anxiety, insomnia, depression, migraines, attention deficit, and much more.

qEEG, also referred to as "Brain Mapping," reveals brain patterns which allows us to see how your brain is functioning.  By reviewing your personal “brain map” we are able to determine which area we need to focus on or enhance brain function and track your progress.

Brain Training is the process in which we utilize a personal neurofeedback program to optimize your brain.

Who can Benefit from qEEG?

QEEG is an option for people of all ages who are struggling with a condition such as:

  • ADD/ADHD

  • Autism

  • Bipolar

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Panic Disorders

  • TBI

  • PTSD

  • Schizophrenia

  • OCD

  • Dementia

  • Insomnia

How qEEG Can Help

  • A qEEG eliminates the need to speculate or guess based on symptoms making it a valuable component of any treatment plan.

  • It can reveal if activity in certain areas of the brain is too high or low, as well as how brain cells are communicating with each other by showing the electrical activity of the brain.

  • The information gleaned from a qEEG can be used for baseline information, in addition to tracking progress with neurofeedback or biofeedback treatment.

  • Our clinical qEEG assessment is the first step in forming a personalized plan to return the brain to a balanced state in order to boost performance and overall function.

Why qEEG?

  • Scientific research shows that many of the problems affecting people today can be caused by abnormalities with the normal functions of the brain. These conditions include Depression, Anxiety, chronic pain, and ADHD (See Additional Articles Below)

  • Standard CT and MRI scans look at the structure of the brain. It is now possible to look beyond just the structure of the brain and view the function of the brain. This creates new possibilities for healthy brain function.

  • With EEG (Electroencephalography) technology, we can now measure these brain waves via the tiny amounts of electrical activity in the brain that are produced when neurons communicate.

  • A qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) is a diagnostic tool that takes it a step further, going beyond the one-dimensional analysis of EEG and creating two- and three-dimensional images that show brain function in detail, analyzing and tracking those brain wave patterns measured by electrical activity in the brain.

What can I expect when getting a qEEG?

The qEEG involves putting a cap (similar to a shower-cap) on your head containing various electrodes. A conducting gel is then inserted beneath each electrode and can easily be washed out of your hair after the qEEG.

Once the cap and electrodes are in place with the gel, a computer will monitor and record your brain’s electrical activity as you sit comfortably with your eyes closed for ten minutes. You will be given a break, and then repeat the process with your eyes open.

Once the qEEG is complete, your data will be compiled into a brain map that reveals brain activity and function. We then use this information to make a specialized neurofeedback plan in order to stabilize brain function and correct any imbalances.

Before the qEEG, make sure you have:

Completed a consent form and list all medications you are currently taking.

Clean, dry hair with NO use of any products such as hair conditioner, gel, mousse, or hairspray. Your scalp must be completely clean and NOT oily.

If you arrive with an oily scalp or unclean hair, your appointment will need to be rescheduled.

Rest Assured

This is a completely painless process. You will not feel any type of buzzing or shock from these electrodes. There is NO electrical current entering the body. The electrodes simply record the electrical activity of your brain.
